A wheelchair is defined by the ADA as a mobility aid belonging to any class three or four-wheeled devices, usable indoors, designed for and use by individuals with mobility impairments, whether operated manually or powered.

The hydraulic lifts of the FAR North Public Transit buses are engineered and designed to bear the weight of the wheelchair closest to the vehicle.  For most wheelchairs and scooters, this will require riders to back onto the lift.

Wheelchair securements and lap/shoulder restraint usage are required unless there is a physician's note that waives this legal requirement.  Transit drivers are trained in, and responsible for, properly securing wheelchairs.

Drivers will refuse rides if the wheelchair is broken or unsafe.
